Amendment 1 Project

  • Our rights

The First Amendment is basically stating that the Government has no right to make a law respecting an establishment of religion. Which means that the Government can not make a law stating that the United States obeys Christianity for example. The law can neither prohibit the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

  • This law is important because..

In the First Amendment it often states that there is a lot of freedom. The First Amendment is important because without all of this, we would not be able to speak freely, pursue the media, or assemble to petition. Us citizens enjoy the freedoms that other countries are not allowed; criticizing the government, petitioning in the streets, or simply the idea to speak our minds. A lot of our amendments do not exist in other countries.

  • An example of this law

The First Amendment can relate to today's news because people with these types of thing everyday. For example: down in Mexico there were children kidnapped and they were all boys. Almost all of the teachers are pro-testing for their students back. The Government is not doing much for them. The teachers are the ones who are acting more like the Government than the Government actually is. The teachers are pro-testing so its goes down as the First Amendment rights. When they pro-test they are exercising the right to peaceably assemble and to petition the the Government.

Currency Project

The 2 dollar bill

- The 2 dollar bill is one of Americas rarest current denomination of US currency.
- On June 25th 1776, the Continental congress authorized the issue of two-dollar bills of credit for the defense of America.
- Only 49,000 bills were issued at that time.
- One reason for the increased popularity is the $2 dollar bill is becoming more frequently used as change where tipping is encouraged.
- The scene of the Declaration of Independence that appears on the bill's reverse is not a perfect duplicate of the John Trumbull painting.
- Five images were removed to make the image fit the bill.
- The two dollar bill is often used as a tracer by small stores to track robberies. A store clerk can keep a two dollar bill at the bottom of their one-dollar bill slots in the cash drawerer with its serial number recorded in case of robbery.

John Adams

John Adams was a very important man in our history. He was from a small town called Braintree Massachusettes. Braintree is now called Quincy Massachusetts. This intelligant man was born October 30th 1735. His birthday is actually coming up. The very sad day that he died was July 4th 1826. On the very same day that Thomas Jefferson died. They both died on independence day. Mr. Adams last words were "Thomas Jefferson still survives." But little did he know at the time that Thomas had died just hours before.

John had grown up in Braintree Massachusetts. He had lived on a lot of farm land that his grandfather had left for his family. John attended a dame school. A dame school is a private elementary school often taught by women and usually taught in the home of the teacher. He also attended a Latin and preparatory school. A preparatory school is a school that basically gets you ready for college. When john got older he went to Harvard.

Unitarianism is the religion that he studied. Unitarianism is a Christian theological movement named for its understanding that god is one person. John Adams Sr. was a deacon. Very much often did business and politics seperate Mr. Adams from his family. When Adams was a young lawyer, his travel to distant villages on the court circuit often kept him away. His wife Abigail felt lonely and miserable, especially when he wasn't there for the birth of his children.

The Stamp Act of 1765, was a law stating that all colonial residents had to pay a stamp tax on virtually every printed paper. In the result of this John wrote a response to the imposition of the act by British Parliament titled "Essay on the Canon and Feudal law", which was soon published in the Boston Gazette. In this essay Adams wrote that the Stamp Act deprived American colonists of the basic rights to be taxed by consent and to be tried by a jury of peers.
